Problem

Correction

Segment acting too hard

Use one grade softer
Increase rate of downfeed
Decrease table rotation speed
Dress more frequently
Consider reducing area of table load

Segment acting too soft

Use one grade harder
Decrease rate of downfeed
Increase table rotation speed
Check for abnormal machine vibration

Glazing and/or burning

Abrasive grade too hard, go softer. Increase table speed (watch ammeter)

The current drawn as shown by the ammeter on the machine gives a very good estimate of the load on the segments and hence the efficiency of the process.

Top

Choose 46 grit for harder materials and finer finishes, and 36 grit for softer materials.
Select the hardest grade possible that will not overload the machine.
Place as many parts on the machine as possible.
